Sanjay Varshney is the Dean of the College of Business Administration at California State University, Sacramento. He has also worked at the University of San Francisco, and previously served as the Dean of the Business School at State University of New York in Utica for five years. At age 31 he became one of the youngest deans in the country to lead a business school.  He earned an undergraduate degree in Accounting and Financial Management from Bombay University, a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Cincinnati, and a PhD in Finance from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.


Sanjay’s research interests include market microstructure, new securities issuance and corporate valuation, and his publications have been included in numerous academic journals. He has also previously worked for Citigroup, Arthur Anderson, and Montgomery Securities. He has served as a financial consultant for leading Wall Street firms including UBS Financial Services, J.B. Oxford, and Salomon Smith Barney. He is Partner and Principal in an asset management company providing portfolio management for high net worth individuals, trusts, pension programs, and corporations. More recently has served as the financial consultant for SMUD on its proposed Yolo annexation and completed a detailed economic impact study for SMUD.  He is currently retained by the United States Olympics Committee and the Chicago Olympics Exploratory Committee to complete an economic impact study to help Chicago secure the 2016 Olympics bid. Other recent projects he has worked on include those from the Department of Conservation, Department of Boating and Waterways, Small Business Administration, St. Hope Academy, and Liberty Mutual.


Sanjay currently serves on the boards of Wells Fargo Bank, Sacramento Area Trade and Commerce Organization (SACTO), Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce, Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy, Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance (SARTA), The Securities Analysts of Sacramento, and Comstock’s Business Magazine. Sanjay has been featured widely in the media and on television including the Sacramento Bee, Prosper Magazine, Comstocks Business Magazine, Sacramento Magazine, the Sacramento Business Journal, and NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox News.  He is a frequent speaker at community events including at the Executive Institute at the request of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.


Most notable of his accomplishments was the successful launch of the only true Executive MBA program in the Sacramento region. The vision of the EMBA is to provide the region’s next generation of senior executives that will help transform the Sacramento region economy and business industry.  Sanjay has executed an effective marketing and public relations campaign that has brought visibility, credibility and recognition to the College of Business, campus, and the community.  His recent launch of the Executive Speakers Series has brought world famous speakers to Sacramento including Warren Buffet, Janet Yellen, Madeline Albright, and Bill Cosby among others.

Sanjay lives in Folsom with his beautiful wife Nisha and two sons Sohil and Shawn.
