What is Pre-Business?
Any student who applies to Sacramento State as a Business major is actually admitted as "Pre-Business". This is because there are specific requirements that must be met prior to enrolling in upper division Business courses.
There are 18-21 units of lower division pre-major coursework that must be completed prior to beginning upper division Business courses. These courses are:
COMPUTER LITERACY - 0 to 3 units
MIS 1 - Microcomputer Hardware and Software
MIS 2 - Spreadsheets
MIS 3 - Word Processing and Presentation Graphics
The computer literacy requirement may be satisfied by either: 1) completing MIS 1, 2 and 3 or the equivalent coursework; or 2) passing the MIS Challenge Exams.
PRE-MAJOR - 18 units
ACCY 1- Accounting Fundamentals
ACCY 2 - Managerial Accounting (ACCY 1)
ECON 1A -Introduction to Macroeconomic Analysis
ECON 1B - Introduction to Microeconomic Analysis
MATH 24 - Modern Business Math (Diagnostic Exams)
STAT 1 - Introduction to Statistics (Diagnostic Exams)
If you plan on enrolling in Math 24 and Stat 1 you will be required to take the Intermediate Algebra Diagnostic (IAD) exam to remain in the course. A study guide is available for your review.
All of the pre-major (and upper division major) courses must be passed with a C- or better.
Besides completion of the above mentioned requirements, a student wanting to declare a major in Business must have Junior standing (60 units) and be in Good Academic Standing (have a Sac State and cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better).
Ready to declare your major in Business?
When a student has enrolled in the last of the pre-major requirements and has met the other above-mentioned requirements, he/she will download the Change of Major Request and submit it to UBAC.
The deadline to file a Change of Major Request is:
October 1 for the following Spring semester
March 1 for the following Fall semester
