Impaction and Applying to the Business Major

The Chancellor's Office of the California State University has granted the College of Business Administration impaction status for its undergraduate business major. Students applying to the business major are required to submit a supplemental business application.

To apply to the business major, you must...

      • Students must have completed the following courses with minimum C- grades with the exception of  MATH24 which must be completed with minimum C grade prior to applying:                                                                                                       ACCY 1 - Fundamentals of Accounting                                                                                                                                              ACCY 2 - Managerial Accounting                                                                                                                                                       ECON 1A - Macroeconomics                                                                                                                                                                 ECON 1B - Microeconomics                                                                                                                                                                  MGMT 10 - Introduction to Business Law  (ok in progress Spring 2014 for Fall 2014 admission)                                        MATH 24 - Modern Business Math                                                                                                                                                         STAT 1 - Introduction to Statistics                                                                                                                                                           MIS 1 - Operating Systems and Electronic Communication                                                                                                             MIS 2 - Spreadsheets                                                                                                                                                                      MIS 3 - Word Processing and Presentation Graphics                             
    • Have a qualifying grade point average (min. "2.4"); and be in good standing at last college or university attended.  Please note that merely have a 2.4 gpa does not guarantee admission to upper division business program.  Students will be rank ordered by overall gpa. 

Returning/continuing Sacramento State students must be in good standing at Sacramento State.

New applicants, including transfer students, must have been admitted to the university prior to applying to the upper division major.

Unofficial transcripts of all course work outside of Sacramento State must be submitted to the Undergraduate Business Advising Center.  Transcripts can be submitted in the following manners:

Admission to the Business Major

Students who have submitted a completed supplemental business application will be ranked by their overall Sacramento State GPA (or transfer units GPA for transfer students) and pre-business GPA. Admissions will follow the rank-order, beginning from the top and continue until the estimated number of available seats is filled.  The cutoff gpa can fluctuate from semester to semester.

Official GPA cutoff for each admission cycle:

Fall 2011 -- 2.5 overall gpa cutoff

Spring 2012 -- 2.8 overall gpa cutoff

Fall 2012 -- 3.0 overall gpa cutoff

Spring 2013 - 3.0 overall gpa cutoff

Fall 2013 - 2.6 overall gpa cutoff

Spring 2014 - 2.7 overall gpa cutoff


Fall 2014 Important Dates (current students):

February 1, 2014 - Business Supplemental Application available online.

March 1, 2014 - Business Supplemental Application and unofficial transcripts due for Continuing Students.

Mid- April - Students notified of Admission Decision to upper division business major.

Fall 2014 Important Dates (New Applicants):

Must by admitted to university prior to applying to upper division business major.

March 1, 2014 - University Admission Notification Date

March 15, 2014 - Business Supplemental Application and unofficial transcripts due for New Fall 2014 applicants..

Mid-April - Students notified of Admission Decision to upper division business major.

Important Information for Fall 2014 applicants Pursuing AS-T Degree:

1. For the AA-T or AS-T to be considered in the Sacramento State admission decision, the applicant must be pursuing the approved AS-T in Business Administration at the time of application and must be on-track for completing the approved program prior to Fall 2014.  Proof of eligiblity for AS-T must be received by the Admissions Office by March 30, 2014.

2. If the above is met, the AS-T degree curriculum is used in lieu of the Business major specific courses for admission purposes.

3. If you are pursuing a AS-T in Business Administration, submit a copy of the completed degree evaluation (Verification of Intent to Earn AA-T or AS-T) document from your California Community College. The document must be mailed to Sacramento State Admissions Office, Lassen Hall 1100, 6000 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95819-6048 before their posted deadline.
