HISTORY OF THE GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

Significant dates in the development of graduate programs in the College of Business Administration at California State University, Sacramento.

1949 - In April of 1949, a state law was passed permitting the State Board of Education to authorize the granting of the Master of Arts degree in state colleges.

1950 – In accordance with legislation that made it possible for state colleges to grant the Master of Arts degree, Sacramento State College was prepared to offer this M.A. degree to qualified educators and prospective educators.  Business Education was listed as a graduate program.

1956 – The Master of Science in Business Administration degree was offered for the first time.

1963 – Both undergraduate and graduate business degree programs were accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

1964 – The Master of Business Administration degree was offered for the first time.

1970 – The Master of Science in Business Administration degree with options in Accounting and Management Information Science were offered for the first time.

1982 – The Master of Science in Accountancy degree was offered for the first time.

1989 – The Master of Science in Accountancy degree with an emphasis in Taxation was first offered.

1992 – The MBA with an emphasis in Urban Land Development was offered for the first time in the Fall.

1994 – The MBA Common Body of Knowledge was substantially revised with the First-Year Core Courses becoming two units and eight weeks in length.  The Second-Year Core includes a new international course requirement.

1994 – The MBA with an emphasis in Accountancy was offered for the first time.

1996 – The MBA with emphases in Finance, Human Resources Management, Management Computer Applications, and Marketing were offered for the first time.

2005 – The Executive MBA program is launched in October.
