Center For Small Business

The Center for Small Business provides free management assistance to small businesses operating in and around the Sacramento area. Consulting services are provided in virtually all facets of business except for taxation, law, and loan packaging. Each year the Center works with approximately 100 small-business owners to help solve management problems. The quality of the program can best be illustrated by the 600% increase in requests in recent years, and the awards for outstanding performance from the Small Business Administration. Established in the spring of 1969, this program is one of the oldest in the western United States and has grown to be one of the largest and most successful.

Welcome to the Center for Entrepreneurship, located in Folsom Hall, Sacramento State University! The Center for Entrepreneurship provides a venture incubator for the early stages of entrepreneurial businesses.

Government Accounting Institute

The Government Accounting Institute is to stimulate and coordinate programs in governmental, public sector, and not-for-profit accounting, budgeting, taxation and auditing. These programs will be educational, research, and service-oriented in nature. The activities of the Government Accounting Institute will utilize the allied areas of managerial and financial accounting, auditing, and taxation as they apply to governmental accounting problems. The Government Accounting Institute will take advantage of the unique position of the College of Business Administration, being in Sacramento, the capital of the largest and most prosperous state. It will also draw on the many and varied talents of the faculty in the College, University, and the CSU system. The Government Accounting Institute will also serve as an educational recourse for faculty and students seeking to enhance their knowledge in the area of governmental accounting and auditing. The Government Accounting Institute will meet the need for coordinating research, education, consultancy, and service in this vital area of government and public sector finance, fiscal management, budgeting, and accounting.

Insurance Education & Research Programs

The Insurance Education and Research Program provides a broad range of local and statewide educational and research opportunities to benefit the community by increasing knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry. The Program awards scholarships and provides internships for students. Interns receive a grant from the Insurance Education and Research Program in addition to their regular employer-paid wage. The Program has performed a significant community service by being a source to coordinate insurance education programs with existing professional organizations. This includes an annual insurance Career Fair, which has attracted over 1600 students and 175 local companies. The AEtna Foundation awarded the Program a grant to develop the Student Education for Leadership in the Future Program (SELF), which includes paid internships, scholarships, field trips, executive shadow days, and membership to Gamma Iota Sigma for qualified minority students. The Program also encourages members of the local insurance community to become guest lecturers. The Program has also coordinated a high-College teachers insurance-education workshop, which includes three company and agency tours, two industry dinners, and numerous guest speakers from insurance-related industries.
