Richard Marens

Born and raised in New York, Marens considers himself a West Coast person after a quarter century of residence. After working as an Alexander Technique teacher for a number of years, he returned to school to earn a law degree in 1990 and studied business and employment law. Discovering he was more interested in scholarship and teaching then in practicing law, he enrolled in the Management and Organization Ph.D. program at the University of Washington where he studied the use of law by stakeholder groups in their relations with corporations and the history of business organization. After graduation in 2000, he spent a year as a visiting professor at the University of South Florida, followed by another year as a permanent faculty member at Monmouth University in New Jersey. Wishing to return to the West Coast, Marens accepted a position in 2000 at California State University, Sacramento in the department of Organizational Behavior and Environment.
