Dr. Sharyn D. Gardner

Dr. Sharyn D. Gardner is an Assistant Professor of Management at the College of Business Administration, California State University Sacramento. She attended UC Davis where she received a B.A. in Psychology and she also earned her Ph.D. in Business Administration (Organizational Behavior emphasis) from the University of Maryland, College Park. Before joining CSUS in 2005, she spent two years teaching at The College of New Jersey.

Dr. Gardner’s research focuses on flexibility and coordination within teams, units, and organizations; distributed cognition and transactive memory systems within teams; collective team personality; and the effects of information technology on organizations. She is a current member of the Academy of Management (AOM) and past member of the Society for Industrial Organizational Psychology (SIOP), and reviews yearly for the annual AOM meetings. Her articles have appeared in The Journal of Vocational Behavior and IHRIM Journal, as well as The Journal of Trauma and The Journal of Emergency Medicine. She has also presented her work at the annual AOM meetings and annual SIOP meetings. Dr. Gardner’s teaching interests include Organizational Behavior, Management and Organization Theory, Strategic Management, Business Communications, and Human Resources.

Prior to her graduate studies and coming to Sacramento State, Dr. Gardner gained extensive experience in management and training during her eight years in industry. During that time, she opened five restaurants and was responsible for all operations; managed various operational projects related to corporate strategy; and was the regional training manager in the Southern California region.

Her honors and awards include the Allan N. Nash Outstanding Doctoral Student Award (UMD Smith School of Business) and various small research grants.
