ChinaEMBA Students Make Study Trip to China

A delegation of eighteen Executive MBA students embarked upon a 10-day study trip to Shanghai and Shenzhen, China, on Saturday, November 25, led by College of Business Administration Dean Sanjay Varshney and Professor Stanley Han.

The group will tour the Chinese facilities of companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen like Ingersoll Rand, Intel, HP, Roche, Carrefour, CB Richard Ellis, Merchant Bank, and visit Tongji University, home of one of the top business programs in China, to gain a better understanding of the business opportunities in the China market.

Associate Dean Chiang Wang explains that this special tour will "expose participants to the global business environment, so that they can see first-hand how fast-growing economies in developing countries provide opportunities for American businesses." The idea for a study tour grew from an EMBA reading assignment. Thomas L. Friedman’s book The World Is Flat impressed students with its granular analysis of interpersonal interaction in other cultures, and led to interest in organizing a delegation to China.

The study delegation is composed of nineteen Executive MBA students, Dean Sanjay Varshney and Professor Stanley Han, all of the College of Business Administration at Sacramento State University. The Executive MBA at Sac State is an innovative new master’s degree program designed for mid-career professionals preparing for leadership positions in the Sacramento region. This fifteen-month program is offered in cohort groups at area business sites on Friday afternoons and Saturdays throughout the year. The next EMBA cohort will convene at Intel’s Folsom site, in Spring, 2007. For details about the EMBA program or to register for a free information session, visit www.cba.csus.edu.
