Master of Science in Accountancy - Thursday, March 9, 2006

The College of Business Administration (CBA) will begin to offer the Master of Science in Accountancy (MS/ACCY) degree program in the fall of 2006.  The MS/ACCY program was developed in response to new developments in the accounting and business worlds.  Increasingly, accountants who hold undergraduate degrees in accounting seek advanced degrees as the complexity of the accounting field increases.   Accounting professionals are involved with an ever-widening range of careers including public accounting, corporate accounting, income tax accounting, not-for-profit accounting, and government accounting.   Significant changes in the regulatory climate, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, have also increased the need for graduate level education.  In addition, the MS/Accountancy program helps to qualify students to sit for professional accounting examinations that lead to credentials such as the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designations.

The MS/ACCY program uses a combination of on-line courses, streaming video and instant messaging to deliver a completely web-based degree. Although some of the classes may be taken in residence, the distance education delivery mode used by the MS/Accountancy program at Sacramento State University vastly increases the flexibility by which students can complete their degree.   Additionally, courses are offered in a compressed semester format and the entire program can be completed with a streamlined time frame.
